Why does gas need to be stored?
Supply and demand
Imagine you were running a bread bakery. Each day you would have to try to estimate how much to bake for your customers.
On a perfect day, the amount of bread you bake (the supply) would exactly match how much the hungry customers want to buy (the demand). Unfortunately for the baker, this doesn't usually happen! On most days...
- there is bread left over - supply is greater than demand
- the bread is all gone, but there are still hungry customers - supply is less than demand
Gas supply
The same thing happens with gas. The demand is sometimes high, and sometimes low.
What do you think?
When do you think the demand for gas in homes will be highest?
